Resumo: This study aims to develop a method for improving the data accuracy of a specific production scheduling software for the meat industry. The proposed method was based on the results obtained in the implementation phase of the scheduling tool in Empresa Alfa, that produces food based on chickens, turkeys and porks. The research method used was a case study, by means of which the influence of data accuracy on the information generated by the system during the project is reported and analysed. The development of the proposed method was based on the theoretical framework on production scheduling, data quality and information quality, the author's perceptions about the project which was applied in the case study and the contributions of experts in the subject of the work. The method was structured in processes and subprocesses, hierarchy that enabled the implementation of the objectives of each process regarding the data accuracy in stages (subprocesses).

An approach to structuring and conducting workforce planning projects

Título: An approach to structuring and conducting workforce planning projects.

Resumo: Building on a study of quantitative and qualitative approaches to workforce planning, a structure and a set of steps are proposed for conducting workforce planning projects in organizations. This approach contemplates four styles of governance applicable to a workforce planning project and the combinations (centralized or decentralized) to be used in the process of reaching decisions in the various difference organizational units. Its structure also comprises the sequencing necessary for workforce planning, as well as the various elements that make up each of the steps. Lastly, its application leads to the systematic construction of an information base that can contribute to enhancing the assertiveness of workforce planning decision making.

Foreseeing Iron Ore Prices Using System Thinking and Scenario Planning

Título: Foreseeing Iron Ore Prices Using System Thinking and Scenario Planning. (Clique para ter acesso ao Artigo Completo)

Resumo: In competitive and complex markets such as the commodities one, having the ability of planning scenarios and envisioning the behavior of prices in each of them, constitutes a competitive advantage for organizations. Within this context, this research aims at developing a method for the understanding of the key factors that impact the pricing of commodities through a systemic approach, allowing the estimation/evaluation of future prices in different scenarios. Action research was used as research methodology, which is characterized by the principles of collaborative and continuous learning. In order to implement the objectives of this research, an adaptation of the Systems Thinking and Scenario Planning method was developed and implemented in an industry of the iron ore market. The first phase led to the understanding of the main variables associated to the price; in the second phase, this learning was materialized in a system dynamic computational model, which was used in the third and final stage for the estimation/evaluation of future prices in some alternative scenarios. Interviews were conducted in parallel with the quantitative evaluation, in order to obtain subsidies for acceptance and refinement of the proposed method. The results obtained, the learning reported and the possible applications identified for the use of the model indicate that the proposed method allows for the understanding of the pricing of commodities through the systems thinking and the planning by scenarios.
